Grace Eldering collection.

This collection consists of 4 manuscript boxes arranged in six series: 1. Correspondence, 1933-1973. Includes letters to Dr. Pearl L. Kendrick and other colleagues. All letters are of professional, rather than personal nature. 2. Disease control, 1942-1972. These reports and statistics show the progress in understanding and controlling the whooping cough and outline the research that led to the vaccine. 3. Eldering articles, 1923-1971. Technical articles written by Grace Eldering. 4. Professional publications, 1924-1980. Reference file for Eldering. Articles written by other professionals interested in whooping cough, or similar diseases and immunology. 5. Memorabilia, 1935-1972. Reflects her outside interests. 6. Newspaper clippings, 1936-1975. These clippings show Dr. Eldering and Dr. Kendrick at work. There are some clippings dealing with the construction of the Public Health complex in Lansing.

Dr. Grace Eldering was born on Sept. 5, 1900 in Hysham, Montana. She received a B.A. in biology/chemistry from the University of Montana (1927) and a doctorate in immunology from John Hopkins University (1941). Eldering began working as a microbiologist for the Michigan Dept. of Public Health in 1928. In 1932, Eldering, along with Dr. Pearl L.
